About Janet...

Janet HansenJanet Hansen was passionate about many things and her life in general. She enjoyed caring for her family, gardening, Mount Rainier in Washington, the country home she and her husband built near Edinburgh, wine tasting, morning coffee... but she dedicated much of her time to her passion for helping the youth of Edinburgh Indiana.

Janet was very much involved in the Edinburgh community. She volunteered as a teacher's assistant and helped organize and run the town's bantam football league for several years. She was elected to the Edinburgh school board in 2002 and re-elected in 2006. She honorably served as past president and with a passion to help the children of Edinburgh.

Janet was a champion for the rights of all children. She held high standards for all and demonstrated excellence in every aspect of her life. She was the driving force behind many of the advanced initiatives instituted within the Edinburgh School Corporation over the six years she served on the School Board.

On Labor Day weekend 2007, after experiencing just two weeks of increasing abdominal pain, she was diagnosed with stage-4 pancreatic cancer. Consistant with the outcome of most victims of this type of cancer and at the young age of 57, she lost her battle with the disease just five and a half months after diagnosis.
